Wistaston & Willaston — Roger Morris & David Simcox

Welcome to Wistaston & Willaston

We are Roger Morris and David Simcox, your Conservative candidates for the new Wistaston & Willaston ward. Roger has lived in Wistaston for years. This is home. We are here to fight for these villages and the people who live in them.

From Church Lane to Middlewich Road, Wells Green to Moorfields, Crewe Road in Willaston and the lanes around Mike Heywood Green — this is our patch and we are proud of it.

Roger Morris and David Simcox outside Wistaston Memorial Hall

We have been knocking on doors, attending planning meetings, challenging Cheshire East Council and listening to what residents tell us matters most.

We are not career politicians. Roger has run his family business on West Street for over 35 years and knows this community inside out. David has spent his working life helping people in Crewe through Citizens Advice. We are local people who want to make a real difference.

No spin, no twelve-point plan dreamt up in an office somewhere. Just clear priorities, honest communication and hard work for the people of Wistaston and Willaston.

🌿 Latest: Green Gap Planning Decision — 28 May 2026

Outline planning permission has been granted for 660 homes on land east of Middlewich Road, Wistaston. It went through on a casting vote, with Labour councillors from Crewe West moving and seconding approval. This is a serious blow for residents but the fight is not over.

Lovely to see this. Wistaston Jubilee Tennis Club on Church Lane has officially opened two newly resurfaced all-weather courts, and what a community effort it’s been to get there.

Roger remembers playing there as a kid, so it’s great to see the club in such good shape nearly 50 years on. The club started with a Crowdfunder target of £15,000 and ended up raising over £42,000 thanks to local residents, businesses and Sport England match funding. That’s the sort of thing that makes you proud to live here.

The new astroturf courts mean people can play year-round whatever the weather throws at us, with new fencing also on the way.

If you’ve not been down for a look, it’s well worth it. Great facilities, right in the heart of the village.

Straight from the fete to fixing things on Broughton Lane

Busy week for us. Thursday evening, Roger was co-opted onto Wistaston Parish Council. Two days later, straight after the fete, we headed down to Broughton Lane to take a look at the “Your Speed” sign that residents told us had been out of action for months.

We got it sorted within a working day.

This isn’t about blowing our own trumpet, it’s about showing what we mean when we say we’ll get on with things rather than just talk about them. Speed signs like this one matter. They remind drivers to slow down on a road plenty of families walk along, and when they’re dark for months at a time that’s a genuine safety concern, not just an inconvenience.

If there’s something similar in your part of Wistaston or Willaston that’s been reported but never fixed, let us know. We can’t promise everything gets sorted in a day, but we’ll always chase it and we’ll always tell you honestly where things stand.

Great to see Wistaston Community News and Events out in force at today’s Village Fete!

Brilliant afternoon at Wistaston Church Lane Academy for this year’s Village Fete, bouncy castles, stalls, games and a proper World Cup theme running through it all to mark this summer’s tournament. Lovely to catch up with so many residents and see the community turn out in such numbers.

Events like this don’t happen by themselves so a huge thanks to the volunteers at Wistaston Community News & Events for putting it together, and to Whitegates for their support this year.

Roger and I were really pleased to be there this is exactly the kind of community spirit we want to keep backing. #Wistaston #wistastonfete #wistastonandwillaston

CHESHIRE EAST'S PRIORITIES?
In May, councillors voted on whether to increase their own allowances.
Here's how the parties voted:

❌ Conservatives – 100% AGAINST

✅ Labour – 100% FOR

✅ Liberal Democrats – 100% FOR

⚠️ Independents – majority FOR

➖ Reform UK – Abstained

Reform UK's sole councillor didn't vote against the increase – he abstained. If Reform's pitch to voters is that they'd do things differently to the "establishment" parties, voters might reasonably ask why their only councillor didn't oppose councillors voting themselves more money.

Weeks later, Cheshire East Council confirmed that redundancies are likely as part of a restructuring programme.

At a time when household costs are rising, council finances are under severe pressure, and staff now face uncertainty about their jobs – Labour, the Lib Dems and the majority of Independent councillors voted to increase councillors' own allowances. Conservative councillors voted unanimously against it.

Whatever your politics, how councillors vote on their own pay is something most residents have a view on. Where do you stand?
