One of Willaston's most famous events is back this weekend.
The World Worm Charming Championships return on Saturday, bringing visitors from across the country and helping put our village on the map once again.
It's a fantastic community event and a great example of the unique traditions that make Willaston such a special place to live.
Will anyone be taking part this year? Let us know below. 👇
🌿 This one is personal.
On Wednesday I sat in that planning board meeting and watched 660 homes get approved on the fields between Wistaston Green Road and Middlewich Road. Fields I drive past every day. Fields that separate our village from Crewe.
Margaret Simon – Wistaston Ward Councillor and Wistaston Parish Council fought their hardest. Residents objected in their hundreds. We had five minutes between us to make the case. Five minutes.
Labour councillors from Crewe West, nothing to do with our ward moved and seconded the approval. The casting vote did the rest.
I am not going to pretend this isn't a blow. It is. Margaret Simon – Wistaston Ward Councillor has been honest with you about that and so will I.
But outline permission is not the end of this. There are reserved matters still to come. There will be more applications. And David and I will be at every single meeting, making sure your voice is heard.
Wistaston and Willaston deserve better than this. As your Conservative candidates for the new ward, protecting the Green Gap is our number one priority not just in an election season, but every single time a developer comes knocking.
We've put a full breakdown of what happened and what comes next on our website. Please read it and share it with anyone who cares about keeping our villages as villages.

Exciting news! Following the boundary review, Crewe Central ward no longer exists, it has been merged into Crewe North. As a result, Roger and David have been selected as the Conservative candidates for the brand new Wistaston & Willaston ward.
Roger has lived in Wistaston for many years, so this is very much home territory for him, and we are both incredibly proud to be standing for this wonderful community.
We'll be updating this page over the coming days, please share with anyone in Wistaston or Willaston so they can follow along. We want to hear from YOU about the issues that matter most in your village.

Big shoutout to everyone and Krazy Races who organised, built, raced and volunteered today, honestly what a day 👏
Living just off Broad Street, you could hear the crowds and atmosphere from the minute it started this morning right through to the end, and it’s been brilliant seeing so many people out enjoying themselves.
The place was absolutely packed all day, loads going on everywhere you looked and some of the karts flying down that hill were mad 😂
Days like today remind you how good Crewe can be when the town comes together properly.
Already hoping it comes back next year ☀️🏁
#Crewe #KrazyRaces
Crewe is already starting to buzz for Krazy Races and it’s brilliant to see the town coming to life right on my doorstep on Broad Street ☀️🏁
Seeing all the stalls, racers and community groups setting up this morning genuinely reminds me of being a kid when Crewe Carnival used to bring the whole town together.
If today is anything like it’s looking already, it’s going to be a fantastic day for Crewe 👏
If you’re thinking of heading down later, definitely do, loads going on already and the atmosphere is building fast!

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION WITH BEN FLETCHER
(CHESHIRE & WARRINGTON MAYORAL CANDIDATE)
☀️The sun was shining (and is forecast to do so for the whole of this BH weekend!) ☀️
It was perfect weather for getting out and about talking to residents (after a well attended Coffee and Conversation morning) about:
– “all matters Cheshire East”
– “what residents want from their future Cheshire & Warrington Mayor” with Mayoral Candidate Ben Fletcher answering questions in Willaston, Crewe, that ranged from housing development in towns and open countryside, buses, roads and the A500, Crewe regeneration, skills and training.
And at the forefront was Ben’s key message about Mayoral Precepts;
“I WILL NOT RAISE YOUR TAXES: NOT. ONE. PENNY.”
Thank you to all those residents who chatted to us, completed questionnaires and shared their views, concerns and ideas! 🙏
#CheshireConservativesworkingforyou
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!
Krazy Races hits Crewe tomorrow 🚗💨
Looks like it’s going to be a fantastic day with races, food stalls, entertainment and plenty going on around Broad Street, Ford Lane and Badger Avenue.
As it’s right on my doorstep, I know it’s already bringing a real buzz to the area 👏
I’ve attached the official event map below in case it helps anyone planning to head down tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a brilliant day!

On Tuesday, Cllr Roger Morris and I were pleased to support Crewe Central Police during proactive reassurance patrols and knife sweep activity around Queen’s Park and surrounding areas, a park used and valued by residents from right across Crewe.
Residents regularly tell us how important Queens Park Crewe is to them. It is one of Crewe’s best community spaces and somewhere families, walkers, runners and older residents should always feel safe and comfortable using.
Thankfully nothing concerning was discovered during the operation, but visible patrols and community engagement remain incredibly important in helping prevent crime and reassuring the public.
We would like to thank the local officers, PCSOs and community partners involved for the work they continue to do tackling anti-social behaviour, knife crime and wider community safety concerns across our town.
Community safety is something residents rightly care deeply about, and we will always support positive action that helps keep our parks, neighbourhoods and public spaces safe, welcoming and well looked after
If there are areas across Crewe where residents feel more needs to be done around community safety, anti-social behaviour or policing visibility, please let us know below or send us a message. Your feedback matters and helps ensure concerns are raised in the right places.

Just a quick heads up for anyone travelling through West Street / Hightown / Broad Street 👇
The traffic lights at the junction are currently out of action. I’ve reported it to Cheshire East via their emergency line (0300 123 5025), but please take extra care if you’re passing through.
It’s a busy junction and could easily catch people out, so please be patient and keep an eye on other drivers and pedestrians.
If you know anyone who uses this route regularly, feel free to share 👍
“I WILL TURN UP AND REPRESENT YOU PROPERLY”! (Joe McLellan)
We are DELIGHTED TO SUPPORT JOE McLELLAN (THE CREWE & NANTWICH CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE) ON 30th APRIL for the CREWE TOWN COUNCIL BY-ELECTION (Crewe South Ward).
The vacancy for a Councillor for the (Crewe South Ward of) the Town Council of Crewe, has arisen due to the failure of a Labour Councillor to attend meetings for a period of six consecutive months under Section 85 of the Local Government Act 1972.
That same Councillor represents a different Ward on Cheshire East Council. Cllrs are expected to attend Full Council Meetings (and this Cllr has attended 6 of 7 meetings so far this year). They also sit on just one other committee of which they have failed to attend any (of just three) meetings.
We accept there may be very relevant reasons for these gross failures to attend, but constituents deserve better from their elected representatives.
Joe will work proactively with residents, with the Town Council and other agencies to improve local conditions across Crewe South and the Town he calls home!

🚑 Ambulance Access on Goddard Street
A quick update for neighbours on Goddard Street.
A few residents and staff at Goddard Court and some residents on Goddard Street have been in touch about problems with ambulances getting close enough to the buildings because of parked cars blocking the dropped kerb.
These buildings are home to over 55s, so fast and clear access for the emergency services is absolutely essential.
I have now raised an official Members Enquiry with Cheshire East Highways asking them to look at whether ambulance markings or other measures can be put in place. I have also asked for a site visit so the issue can be properly assessed.
I will keep everyone updated as soon as we receive a response.
If anyone living nearby has experienced similar issues, please feel free to message me.

🕯️ Dangerously Dark Around the Crewe Lifestyle Centre
For months now, the lights around the building and the steps leading to the Dunelm car park have been out. Staff at the centre have already treated people who’ve tripped and been hurt, and the police have reported more anti-social behaviour and groups gathering in the area after dark.
It’s been like this since August. Several people and agencies have reported it, yet nothing has been done. We’ve been told it might be down to a dispute over who owns or maintains the lights, but that’s no excuse when people’s safety is at risk.
I’ve asked for a clear answer on who’s responsible, when the lights will be fixed, and what can be done in the meantime to make the area safer, such as temporary lighting or patrols.
People using the centre deserve to feel safe walking to and from it, not left in total darkness. This needs sorting quickly.
I’ll keep you all updated once I have a full response.

🏗️ Crewe Town Centre. The Hard Truth Over recent months, many residents have been asking: “What’s really happening with Crewe’s town centre?” David Simcox recently submitted questions to Cheshire East Council to get straight answers about what the “regeneration” really means for Crewe. We’re sharing the council’s written responses here so everyone can see the same information and understand what’s planned. (Cllr Roger Morris was not involved in submitting these questions.) 🚗 1️⃣ The £11 million car park, the project that started it all The multi-storey car park was built years ago for a development that never happened. The council admits it was part of a failed scheme and is currently loss-making and underused. They now say it will eventually replace Chester Street and Delamere Street car parks, both of which are full most days. But there’s no new parking study yet to prove the multi-storey can cope once hundreds of new homes are built around it. That study will only happen after new planning applications come forward. So, in effect, the council plans to remove car parks first and check if the new one can handle it later. It’s easy to see why so many people in Crewe think it’s a £11 million white elephant, a car park built for a town centre that doesn’t yet exist. 🏘️ 2️⃣ What the “new town centre” actually means This is the part most people don’t realise. The council’s official wording calls it a “housing-led regeneration scheme”, around 300 new homes in the town centre, with small shops, offices, or community spaces below them. That means the Crewe of the future won’t be a town centre like Liverpool, Chester, or even how Crewe once was. The big retail dream has gone, the council’s new strategy is to build homes first, hoping that cafés and small shops will follow. In effect it will be like Nantwich Road, West Street and Edleston Road. So if anyone is expecting a new shopping hub full of big stores, that simply isn’t the vision anymore. 💷 3️⃣ Why housing first, not shops or leisure? The council says large retail or leisure projects aren’t “viable”, meaning no developer will take them on. Housing is seen as the only thing that currently attracts investment, and they believe once people live in the centre, other businesses might follow later. It’s a gamble, build the homes and hope the rest comes. ⚠️ 4️⃣ Financial risk Even this scheme depends on millions from Homes England to fill what the council calls a “significant viability gap.” If that funding falls through, the council admits the project “may not be delivered.” That could leave us facing another half-finished site, something Crewe has sadly seen before. 🔒 5️⃣ Transparency Much of the detail remains hidden in “Part 2” confidential papers. Even the Chamber of Commerce hasn’t seen everything yet. The council says residents will be consulted once the developer is formally engaged, but right now, we’re being asked to take a lot on trust. ⚖️
A quick note of thanks to Start Well at The Wishing Well for all their incredible work with local children. It was a real pleasure to support this project through my business, Discounted Cleaning Supplies, and to see the new kit being put to good use. Roger Morris wasn’t able to be there on this occasion, but both of us are proud to back the fantastic work being done.
The dedication and hard work from the Start Well at The Wishing Well team is second to none, and it’s fantastic to see the difference being made for children in our area.
Tonight we challenged Cheshire East Council at the Economy & Growth Committee over their plans to turn the Royal Arcade site, Chester Street and Delamere Street car parks into a 300-home housing estate. 🏘️
We promised to be open with residents – so here are the 7 questions we put on the record:
1️⃣ Parking and Access – The £11m multi-storey 🅿️ was built for the failed Peveril scheme, not to replace Chester and Delamere. It’s already loss-making and underused. What evidence is there it will really cope once 300 more homes are added?
2️⃣ Strategic Direction – Turning Crewe town centre into a housing estate is not regeneration, it’s surrender. ❌🏙️ Is the council redefining the town centre as residential, instead of a retail and leisure hub?
3️⃣ True Regeneration – Regeneration has to mean shops, offices and life in the town centre 🏬👨👩👧👦 – not just housing dropped on top of a failed car park. How will this scheme guarantee those wider benefits?
4️⃣ Sequencing – We’ve seen failed schemes before for example Peveril (2021). 📉 Why build 300 homes before delivering shops, offices and leisure? Isn’t this putting the cart before the horse? 🐴🛒
5️⃣ Financial Risk – The council’s own report admits there’s a “viability gap” 💷 that depends on millions from Homes England. If that fails, will residents end up footing the bill through higher council tax 💸 or service cuts?
6️⃣ Transparency – Much of the detail is hidden in Part 2 confidential papers 🔒. The Chamber supports the idea, but even they haven’t seen the full facts. How can anyone’s support be fully informed without transparency?
7️⃣ Legal Barriers – The council’s own title review found restrictive covenants ⚖️ on the central car park land. Have these been resolved, and if not, could they delay or even block redevelopment?
Crewe has been let down too many times before. 😔 Residents deserve straight answers, not another half finished scheme or more broken promises.
We’ll share the council’s responses once they are available. 📢

🚫 VICTORY: HMO REFUSED ON WEST STREET 🚫
We’re pleased to report that today the Southern Planning Committee rejected the application to cram a six-person HMO into 523 West Street.
This was absolutely the right decision – and a win for common sense. 🙌
We made it clear the scheme failed to meet the council’s own policies, including:
❌ HOU 4 – no internal communal space and not enough outdoor amenity
❌ HOU 10 – inadequate bin and cycle storage
❌ SD 2 & SE 1 – poor design, no sense of place
❌ NPPF Paragraph 130 – fails to improve character or quality of the area
👂 The committee listened.
🗣️ Residents spoke up.
✊ We stood our ground.
A big thank you to everyone who objected, shared concerns, or supported behind the scenes. 💬💪 Together, we protected a local street from overdevelopment.
We’ll keep standing up for proper planning, residents’ voices, and stronger rules on HMOs across Crewe.

🚧 FixMyStreet is being replaced – meet traCE 🛠️
Cheshire East Council is launching a brand-new tool called ‘traCE’ to replace FixMyStreet for reporting potholes, fly-tipping, and other local issues.
🗓️ From TOMORROW! Wednesday 23rd July, traCE will be the new go-to site to report:
Potholes
Abandoned vehicles
Fly-tipping
Fallen trees
Broken signs
…and more, right across Cheshire East.
📲 It’s available 24/7 on your phone, tablet or computer — with live updates and a handy map so you can see if others have already reported the same issue.
📝 Any open reports from FixMyStreet will automatically carry over, so you don’t need to start again.
👀 We really hope this new system is more effective & not just a shiny rebrand. Residents have told us time and again that reporting is one thing, but getting things fixed is another. We’ll be testing it ourselves and keeping track of how it performs.
📍 You’ll be able to access traCE here from launch day:
☎️ For anything dangerous or urgent, remember you need to call 0300 123 5020.
As always, if you need a hand using the new system or if something isn’t getting sorted, get in touch we’re here to help.

💥 FINALLY ITS DONE! 💥

Massive thanks to Dave and the team from Your Housing Group for stepping up and getting it cleared after our continued requests.
We’ve been persistent, and we’re proud to say that pressure paid off. 💪
We know how frustrating this has been, and we want to thank everyone for your patience while we kept pushing behind the scenes. This is what happens when we don’t give up,
and we won’t stop fighting to get things sorted for our community.👊
👉 If something’s not right in our area, we’ll keep at it until it’s fixed, no matter how long it takes.
